True Fitness was founded in 1981 and has been building high end treadmills ever since. True has over 240,000 square feet of testing, manufacturing, engineering, warehouse and office space located at their corporate headquarters near St. Louis, Missouri. True exercise equipment is sold in over 350 domestic stores across 65 countries worldwide, which is quite impressive.
True treadmills are offered for both home and commercial use. As mentioned above, they are high end machines that range from $2,099 to $5,899.
Pros
True treadmills operate extremely quietly and smoothly. In fact, True has established an excellent reputation for building the finest decks and belts in the treadmill industry.
True treadmills are very stable machines with great cushioning support. They have a unique cushioning system called the SOFT System where the front third of the deck is softer to reduce impact. As your foot moves back along the belt, the surface stabilizes to give you a firm push off.
True’s warranty coverage is quite remarkable. Aside from their Z4 series, all their treadmills have a warranty of 30 years on frame, 10 years on all parts and 1 year on labor.
Cons
Although True has high quality decks and belts, this has conditioned several consumers in thinking the rest of their treadmills are made of high quality components. In fact, the quality of a True treadmill is nothing to brag about. We would expect to see more reliable and high quality parts to be used for such a high priced treadmill.
This leads into their next weakness: A True treadmill is quite pricey. Situated in the high end range, True competes against other treadmill brands that have a better value for money such as Precor treadmills.
Summary
Purchasing a True treadmill can be a pleasant but expensive experience. This is not to imply that you won’t get your money’s worth but give you an awareness that there are other brands in the same price category that will give you a better value for your money.
