One of the younger fitness equipment companies and brands, Athlon was founded in 1997. The Athlon mission statement is “to provide products and services that encourage total fitness (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual) in an enjoyable and safe manner."
Athlon does not have a long line of fitness machine models behind them. At this current writing they have 2 treadmills, 2 exercise bikes, and 1 elliptical trainer. Athlon seems to be trying to mark their territory in the American market with a select offering in a selection of stores across the country.
Pros of Buying an Athlon Treadmill
Athlon treadmills are simple in design with a basic console and set of features. For those seeking simplicity in a treadmill, Athlon would likely be your brand. With a rating above Icon Fitness machines with regard to quality, they are a good purchase. Considering Icon Fitness' size and amount of brands under their umbrella, this is a big difference to be aware of when making a purchase decision.
Cons of Purchasing an Athlon Treadmill
Athlon treadmills (and fitness equipment in general) does not offer a great value for money. At the $1,000 price point, you would expect to see at least a motor of 2.0 CHP (the minimum power required). While Athlon treadmills outperform Icon Fitness machines, they are not of the best quality. The treadmill belt is short in both length and width, cutting out folks who are tall or who want a serious workout / run. Running on under-sized tread belts can hinder workouts and potentially bio mechanics - increasing the possibility of falling and injury.
Recommendation
Athlon is attempting to enter an already saturated and competitive market with a slightly above average product and small line-up or products. Our recommendation is to stay away from a manufacturer which is new and has a larger chance of going out of business. This likelihood would leave you without support for products purchased and leave you in a tight spot.
It is for this primary reason that we would not recommend Athlon treadmills.
